Celia Thaxter's Garden Tour -August 2, 2024- SML Registration

Thank you for your interest in a tour of Celia Thaxter's Garden on Appledore Island! Please provide your personal information below to register for the tour. You can register additional tour participants using this online form if you are traveling with a companion.

When your registration is complete, a confirmation packet (PDF) will be provided with important information, including arrival times, locations, what to bring, etc. Please be sure to print the release forms in this packet, and complete them prior to arriving at the pier on the day of your tour. Important Information! Know Before You Go:

Pier:
Transportation to and from Celia Thaxter's Garden on Appledore Island is provided by UNH’s Research Vessel Gulf Challenger. The R/V Gulf Challenger departs from UNH’s Judd Gregg Marine Research Complex in New Castle, NH. This is a working research pier, and access to the vessel is via a steep ramp. The slope of the ramp varies with the tide.

Vessel:
Because the R/V Gulf Challenger is a research vessel, it does not provide amenities commonly found on a regular passenger vessel. Participants should be prepared to stand for the duration of the trip to and from Appledore Island (~45 minutes one-way) and will have limited protection from sun, rain or sea spray. There is limited seating available in the vessel's cabin (below deck), and the cabin is only accessible via a steep set of stairs. Toilet facilities on the vessel, in addition to being small, are accessed via the steep set of stairs. Participants are encouraged to use the toilet facilities located at UNH's Judd Gregg Marine Research Complex prior to boarding the vessel.

Island:
Appledore Island is a rugged landscape with uneven, slightly steep and rocky paths. Access on/off the island is via a floating dock, a steep ramp, and a set stairs. Participants must be in good physical condition and should be prepared to spend a majority of the day walking (approximately 1-2 miles). Toilet facilities are available on Appledore Island. A gourmet, buffet lunch is included as part of the garden tour.
